The Judean Desert is bordered by the Mountains of Judea to the west and by the Dead Sea to the East. It is considered a relatively small desert, spanning only 1,500 square kilometers, but it contains many fascinating nature reserves, historic sites, monasteries and primeval panoramas that make it an exciting and unique place to visit.

Tel Aviv is classified as a beta+ world city, being a major economic hub and the richest city in Israel, home to many corporate offices and research and development centers. Western Wall, sometimes referred to as the Wailing Wall, is an important Jewish religious site located in the Old City of Jerusalem. Just over half the wall, including its 17 courses located below street level, dates from the end of the Second Temple period, being constructed around 19 BCE by Herod the Great. The remaining layers were added from the 7th century onwards. There is a much publicised practice of placing slips of paper containing written prayers into the crevices of the Wall.

Jaffa is an ancient port city believed to be one of the oldest in the world. Jaffa is located south of Tel Aviv on the Mediterranean Sea. Today it is part of the Tel Aviv-Yafo municipality.

The Shrine of the Báb is a structure in Haifa, Israel where the remains of the Báb, founder of Bábism and forerunner of Bahá'u'lláh in the Bahá'í Faith, have been laid to rest; it is considered to be the second holiest place on Earth for Bahá'ís, after the Shrine of Bahá'u'lláh in Acre. Surrounded by terraced gardens, the Shrine is one of the most recognizable landmarks in Haifa and has attracted millions of visitors. The Shrine is enhanced by 19 garden terraces that stretch one kilometre from the base of Mount Carmel to its summit, and both the terraces and the Shrine are illuminated at night. Bahá’i Holy Places in Haifa is UNESCO WHS.

The Old City is a 0.9 square kilometre (0.35 square mile) walled area within the modern city of Jerusalem, Israel. The Old City is home to several sites of key religious importance: the Temple Mount and its Western Wall for Jews, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre for Christians, and the Dome of the Rock and al-Aqsa Mosque for Muslims. Old City of Jerusalem and its Walls is UNESCO WHS.

Masada is the name for a site of ancient palaces and fortifications in the South District of Israel on top of an isolated rock plateau, or large mesa, on the eastern edge of the Judean Desert overlooking the Dead Sea. It was was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001. I visited this place and it is really amazing.

Nazareth is the capital and largest city in the North District of Israel. In the New Testament, the city is described as the childhood home of Jesus, and as such is a center of Christian pilgrimage, with many shrines commemorating biblical associations.

King Solomon's Pillars are natural geological formations named after the biblical king. They are located in Timna valley, 20 miles north of the Gulf of Eilat of the Red Sea. This area is called Arabah and it is known for a wide variety of distinctive landscapes.

Coral World Underwater Observatory in Eilat allows visitors to view marine life in its own habitat. The park, located at the southern tip of Coral Beach, has aquariums, a museum, simulation rides, and shark, turtle and stingray tanks.
