Allgäu is a German region in the southwest of Bavaria also extending some kilometres into southeastern Baden-Württemberg. The region stretches from the prealpine lands up to the Alps. The area, famous for its beautiful landscape, and its Hirtenkäse ("herder's cheese"), is popular for vacations and convalescences. The alpine regions of Allgäu, which exceed 2,000 metres of altitude, offer good skiing facilities.
